On the corner of Bull Street and 39th is where you will find this hidden treasure. UKIYO is a Japanese street food concept brought to you by the same group behind The Collins Quarter, The Fitzroy and The Deck on Tybee Island. Given Southern Cross Hospitality’s track record we went in with high expectations and were not disappointed in the least.
Excited to try a variety of dishes we started with the charred edamame topped with a bourbon & tamari glaze it was absolutely delicious and had a smoky depth of flavor. The smashed cucumbers were deliciously crunchy and the okonomiyaki was finished with the most perfectly cooked egg that left everyone wanting to order the entire menu, but we settled on the crispy tofu buns and wagyu beef buns (reminded us of a cheeseburger with the softest buns on earth). The group all agreed the best tofu we have ever tried. To round out the night we got the chicken ramen, duck ramen, and the salt & pepper quail which were all excellent.
At this elevated Japanese dining experience you can enjoy a light bite at the chic bar or a full tasting dinner at a table. It’s a fun atmosphere with an attentive and engaging wait staff. All in all we give Ukiyo 5/5 💎💎💎💎💎 diamonds.
